Fataafat Tomato Chutney – Spicy & Tangy
A spicy & tangy chutney made with tomatoes
This Tomato chutney is one such variety inspired from south Indian cuisine, The Tomato chutney is also no onion, no garlic recipe.
This chutney pairs extremely well with Idly, dosa, uttpam, vada, paranthas or
with pakoras.

Ingredients :-
2 large tomatoes
½ inch ginger
2 to 3 dry red chilies
7-8 black peppers
2-3 cloves
1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
2 tablespoon water for grinding
½ tablespoon oil – Olive or sesame oil
1 dry red chili – seedless (optional)
7 to 8 curry leaves (optional)
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
½ tsp cumin powder
½ tsp garam masala (optional)
½ tsp Turmeric
2-3 fenugreek seeds
Salt as required – prefer rock salt
1 tsp Sugar – prefer slightly stevia sweetner if you are a weight watcher
Instructions :-
Step 1
1. Heat oil and add ginger on a low flame, saute the ginger for 30 seconds.
2.Now add cloves & black peppers.
3. Then add chopped tomatoes, then turmeric, cumin powder, garam masala, then add red or green chilly paste and asafoetida.
4. Add salt, stir and saute till the tomatoes soften. about 6 to 7 minutes on a low flame.
5. Once the tomato mixture cools, add them to a chutney grinder or small blender.
6. Add 2 tbsp water and grind to a smooth paste.
Step 2
7. In the same pan or different pan, heat 1 tbsp oil
8. Add the mustard seeds and crackle them.
9. Then add curry leaves, methi seeds, asafoetida and one broken red chili. saute till the curry leaves become crisp.
10. Then add the ground tomato paste. stir well.
11. Saute for 3 to 4 minutes on a low flame. check the taste and add more salt if required.
12. Stir again. the tomato chutney is done and ready to be served.

Suggestions :-
Use glass jar to store chutney. Do not use metallic utensils.
Do not add chilly to early while frying.
Use stevia sweetner instead of sugar if you are a weight watcher.
